Over the last 30 years, the Forest Stewardship Council has taken many small steps that have resulted in significant, positive change for our planet.
This Forest Week, as a member, Karta is reflecting on the importance of continuing to amplify the impact.
Ecosystems in Balance
From genes and bacteria to entire ecosystems, FSC-certified forests are home to a remarkable array of lifeforms, each playing a crucial role in maintaining ecological balance and the health of our planet.
All of our floors use FSC-certified wood fibre – not only that, but the wood we use are parts of trees that aren’t used in the timber industry. Branches, twigs, and bark, which would otherwise go to waste, are reclaimed and recycled into stylish, sustainable, durable flooring.
At the end of our floors’ lives, they are fully recyclable, giving back to the planet the materials we borrowed from it, and feeding new growth trees. This is known as a circular economy, and contributes to the health and wealth of forests.
Fighting the Climate Crisis
This Forest Week we reflect on the crucial link between addressing climate change and safeguarding forests.
Forests absorb and store twice as much carbon as they emit – across the world, forests currently store 861 gigatonnes of carbon in their branches, leaves, roots, and soil.
The ongoing climate crisis poses a significant threat to forest health. Karta supports the Forest Stewardship Council to protect our forests, and our planet. Every action counts.
Small Steps Together, Big Change for All
The work does not stop at the end of Forest Week – it’s now crucial that we continue to take the small steps needed to nurture and protect our invaluable ecosystems.
When purchasing products made from wood or paper, keep an eye out for the FSC logo. All Karta floors are 100% FSC-certified, so you can enjoy stylish design with peace of mind.
Use recycled, reclaimed, and upcycled items wherever you can – such as our Recycled Leather Series, which delivers all three of these aims in every plank.
There is strength in numbers. Spread the word about Forest Week, and encourage those around you to take their own small steps toward a sustainable future for us all.
While these actions may seem small on their own, together we can keep forests healthy, sustainable, and thriving.
